Open the IPVanish app, hit Connect, then run the test widget at the top of this page. Three checks tell you whether IPVanish is doing its job:

  1. Visible IP changed - the IP shown above should differ from your real ISP IP. If unchanged, the tunnel is not routing traffic.
  2. Country matches your selected server - if IPVanish says you're connected to "Germany" but our checker shows your real country, the tunnel is broken.
  3. All three leak rows show SAFE - WebRTC, DNS, IPv6. If any row reads LEAK / EXPOSED, your real IP is escaping the tunnel.

Specific IPVanish settings to verify: Threat Protection, on-demand rules. Look for those terms in the app menu - they're the IPVanish-specific names for the protections we're testing.

"App freezes on Windows after sleep"

Fix: Settings -> General -> 'Auto-reconnect' on. Known wake-from-sleep bug, workaround stable.

"Streaming Netflix non-US blocks"

Fix: IPVanish not optimized for non-US Netflix. Stick to US, Hulu, BBC iPlayer (sometimes works); use NordVPN for other regions.

"WireGuard speed lower than competitors"

Fix: IPVanish runs its own implementation; some users report 60-70% of native WireGuard speed. Switch to OpenVPN UDP if speed-bottlenecked.
